Ethiopia welcomed the start of the 2017 New Year with a focus on the Afrobeat sensation Davido.
It is commonly known that in Ethiopia, the birth of Jesus Christ is celebrated seven or eight years later than it is on the Gregorian, or “Western,” calendar.
As a result, September 11 or September 12 in leap years are the dates for celebrating New Year, or Enkutatash, every year.
One of the highlights of the colorful celebrations was Davido’s performance, which raised the anticipation of the occasion with his upbeat set and enthusiastic audience.
Davido, commenting on the occasion, wrote:
“Ethiopia last night was amazing !!”
Nigerians humorously reacted to the viral video, joking that it seemed like the singer had travelled back in time to perform.
