Nigerian disc jockey and activist, DJ Switch, has found herself at the center of major online backlash after posting a blunt and controversial reaction to the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shortly after news of Buhari’s passing on Sunday, July 13, 2025, DJ Switch took to her Instagram story with a message that shook social media:
“The sweet reality of inevitability. RIP MF. One down.”
The post, interpreted by many as mocking and celebratory, immediately triggered a wave of outrage, with critics accusing her of being insensitive and disrespectful to the dead.
But instead of backing down, she doubled down.
In a follow-up video, DJ Switch defended her comments, saying:
“Please tell me what is Buhari’s achievement apart from destroying Nigeria? When you are a bad leader, people will drink to your demise.”
She added:
“I don’t need to prove my empathy to anybody. When I saw that news, it was like justice. Next on the list, T-Pain, how far?”

DJ Switch has been one of Buhari’s most vocal critics, especially after her viral #EndSARS livestream during the 2020 Lekki Toll Gate shooting, which made global headlines.
While her supporters applaud her for “speaking truth with boldness,” others feel she crossed the line, especially during a time of national mourning.
