Former President Olusegun Obasanjo drops heavy words as NNPP leaders storm his Abeokuta home for 2027 consultations.

According to reports, Obasanjo, during a meeting with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leaders from the southern region, didn’t hold back as he expressed deep concerns over Nigeria’s leadership structure and political direction.

He allegedly said, “We are in bondage. Let us keep watching the situation, but more importantly, let us pray that God delivers us.”

While distancing himself from any party affiliation, Baba stated clearly: “I belong to no party. Nigeria is my political party. I only care about the country’s progress.”

“We’ve Had Tribal Presidents, Not a Nigerian President” — Obasanjo Fires Shot

Obasanjo boldly called out the country’s ethnic-based leadership, claiming that while we’ve had Fulani, Hausa, and Yoruba presidents, Nigeria is yet to produce a leader who truly represents everyone.

He warned that unless we break this cycle of tribal politics, real progress will remain a dream. “Until we do, our problems will remain,” he said.

The former president didn’t stop there. He blasted the current political class, saying most are only in it for personal gain and that Nigeria has “disappointed not just Africa, but the entire world.”

NNPP Reacts: 2027 Is Not Business as Usual

Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, the NNPP’s Ogun State 2023 governorship candidate, echoed Obasanjo’s frustration. “If we truly want to build this country, we must start by putting the people’s needs first,” he said.

According to Oguntoyinbo, Nigerian youths are warming up to show power with their votes come 2027. “We’re ready to elect true leaders,” he declared.

Also speaking, NNPP Southwest Vice Chairman, Chief Ademola Ayoade, revealed that their visit was to seek Obasanjo’s blessings and guidance ahead of the upcoming election.

When asked about a possible alliance with ADC, he responded sharply: “Not for now. We’re focused on consultations.”

As for rumours of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso defecting to APC? Ayoade dismissed it quickly: “It’s mere rumour. As far as we know, he’s not moving anywhere.”
