CDQ Reveals Why He Abandoned Banking for Music: ‘Even at Work, I Was Writing Lyrics’

Popular Nigerian rapper CDQ has finally opened up about why he ditched a promising banking career to follow his heart into the music world — and trust me, omo this gist go choke inspiration!

In a recent sit-down with Echo Room, the Nowo Soke crooner revealed that becoming a banker wasn’t actually his dream — it was his late father’s. Out of respect, he gave it a shot. But deep down, his soul was elsewhere.

“I was always writing lyrics in the office,” he said. “I wasn’t even focused on the job.”

Omo! Imagine clocking into work just to pen bars instead of crunching numbers!

CDQ shared how he secretly resigned from his job without telling his family. He left home and moved in with legendary producer Masterkraft, who once lent him suits for work. According to CDQ, Masterkraft was shocked when he heard the rapper had quit.

But CDQ had a bold declaration — they should focus on music for six months and see what happens.

“Whether music pays or not, I’m happy doing it,” he said.

They reportedly secured a deal that helped them move from the trenches straight to Lekki — no be small move! From there, CDQ’s rise was unstoppable.
