Rising football star Chioma Okafor has finally revealed why she picked to play for Nigeria’s Super Falcons instead of representing her other country, Malawi — and her reasons are making waves online.
Okafor, who was born to a Nigerian father and a Malawian mother, explained that while the decision wasn’t easy, her long-term football dreams made it clear.
“It wasn’t an easy decision,” she said in an interview with Ademola Victor TV. “But I needed to play with players who are better than myself… With time Malawi will get there, but time is ticking. I couldn’t keep waiting — I had to take the opportunity.”

If she features — even for a single second — in Saturday’s WAFCON final against Morocco, she will officially be cap-tied to Nigeria, making her ineligible to switch nations later.
She also expressed deep gratitude to the Super Falcons for the love they’ve shown since she joined the squad:
“Since the first day I stepped into camp, they’ve been so welcoming. It feels like I have 23 sisters here. I thank them so much for making me feel at home.”
Chioma is now one step away from potentially lifting a continental title in her very first major tournament appearance — talk about divine timing!
