The Williams brothers have found themselves at the center of serious drama — and it all started when Nico Williamsreportedly turned down a move to Barcelona, despite heavy interest and media hype.
Nico’s U-Turn Shocks Everyone
At first, it looked like a done deal — Barcelona were said to be deep in talks with Athletic Club over a potential move for the 22-year-old winger. Reports claimed personal terms were close and the club had even reactivated plans to trigger his release clause.
But out of nowhere, boom, Nico reportedly pulled out. Instead of heading to Camp Nou, he signed a long-term contractwith Athletic Club that runs until 2035. Omo, that one long die!
Backlash? E choke!
As expected, the sudden U-turn didn’t sit well with a lot of Barcelona fans. Online abuse started flying, and things allegedly went from keyboard warrior wahala to real-life vandalism. According to Iñaki, Nico’s car glass was smashed and even a mural featuring him was vandalized.
Omo this is painful o! Imagine turning down a move for personal reasons and getting dragged like this? People really need to chill abeg.
Iñaki Steps Up: “My brother didn’t deserve this”
During his first press conference as Athletic Club captain, Iñaki Williams couldn’t keep quiet anymore. He cleared the air, saying his brother had made the decision “a while back,” but because of the length and details of the new deal, it couldn’t be made public immediately.
“The external noise has done a lot of damage… what was leaking were lies,” Iñaki said, adding that media pressure tried to manipulate the fans into turning on Nico.
He also confirmed that Barcelona weren’t the only club interested — several big teams were reportedly eyeing Nico because of his “low and affordable” release clause. In his words, “It was candy for the big teams.”
Bigger Picture: Loyalty or Pressure?
Nico’s decision to stay in Bilbao might look like a shocker to fans, but according to his brother, the media heat, “noise,” and emotional toll made it an incredibly tough period for the young star.
