It’s officially game over for one of Netflix’s biggest-ever hits — Squid Game. In the highly emotional Season 3 finale, titled Episode 6, the mysterious Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) initiates an evacuation as the guards flee the island. On the giant screens in the control room, the words “Game Over” flash repeatedly, and omo… for fans, this one really is painful — because there will be no Season 4.

Creator Confirms the End

According to Tudum, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk confirmed last year in a heartfelt letter to fans that Season 3 would be the final chapter, with its release planned for 2025. In his words:

“I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story.”

Omo, this is going to hot — because fans had been hoping for more twists beyond Season 3, but Hwang made it clear: the story is complete.

Gi-hun’s Fate and the Final Message

Interestingly, Hwang initially didn’t plan for Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) to die in Season 3. But as he developed the scripts for Seasons 2 and 3, he decided the ending needed to bring closure both to the deadly game and Gi-hun’s journey.

His message to fans? If we only chase self-interest and refuse to cooperate, sacrifice, or compromise, then “we have no future.” This theme runs through the intense finale, revealing the winners, losers, and survivors in a way designed to stick with viewers long after the credits roll.

Bittersweet Goodbye Behind the Scenes

Looking back, Hwang described creating the show’s 22 episodes as a tough but unforgettable journey. He’ll miss the iconic sets — the towering bunk beds, the maze-like stairs, the game arenas — and even the exhaustion of long shoot days. But above all, he’ll miss the memories and the joy of seeing his vision come to life better than he imagined.
