Lagos, Nigeria – The captain of Nigeria’s women’s national football team, Rasheedat Ajibade, has revealed that the Super Falcons are still waiting for the much-publicised $100,000 cash gift promised to them by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

President Tinubu had announced the generous reward during a reception held to celebrate the team’s triumph at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco. In addition to the money, the players and technical crew were promised houses and conferred with national honours for their outstanding performance.

But in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Ajibade made a revelation that is now making waves online.

“We have not received our money, but hopefully, it would be paid,” she said. “They have not paid; all the promises, we have not received anything.”

Omo, this one pain! After all the nationwide celebration and headlines, the Super Falcons are still waiting for their reward months after the announcement.

The news has sparked renewed conversations about unfulfilled promises in Nigerian sports, especially since just a week later, Tinubu made a similar pledge to the country’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their own victory on the continental stage.

This development has raised questions among fans and sports lovers, with many asking why such rewards, once publicly announced, often face delays in payment.

While Ajibade expressed hope that the funds would eventually come through, her statement has shed light on a situation that most Nigerians assumed was already settled.

For now, according to reports, neither the Super Falcons nor their coaching crew have received the promised cash gift, houses, or any official update on when the rewards will be fulfilled.

With both the Super Falcons and D’Tigress holding recent continental titles, Nigerians are watching closely to see if the pledges will be honoured in full — and when.
