Tyler Morton Ready for Lyon Debut
Liverpool academy product Tyler Morton is finally set to make his first appearance for Olympique Lyonnais this weekend. According to reports, the 21-year-old midfielder will debut when Lyon face RC Lens on Saturday in their Ligue 1 clash.
Morton joined Lyon earlier this summer, and with the squad still finding its rhythm, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.
Omo, pause here—this one sweet! Imagine leaving Liverpool just a few weeks ago and now walking straight into Lyon’s starting XI. That’s big vibes!
Matić Exit Clears the Way
The path to first-team football has opened up nicely for Morton. Earlier this week, Lyon confirmed that Nemanja Matić’s contract had been terminated by mutual consent, one year before its expiry.
That departure removes a major competitor from the midfield, giving Morton the space to establish himself alongside American star Tanner Tessmann in the double pivot.
Lyon’s Expected Line-Up v Lens
Manager Pierre Sage is preparing for a tough encounter against Lens, but Morton is expected to slot straight in. Returning from a minor calf issue, Corentin Tolisso will likely start in a more advanced midfield role.
At the back, Abner is set to deputise at left-back while Nicolás Tagliafico continues to build fitness. Between the posts, Rémy Descamps will get the nod, although Lyon are close to finalising a permanent deal for Dominik Greif from Mallorca, who is tipped to become the new No.1.
Here’s the probable Lyon XI vs Lens (via L’Équipe):
Rémy Descamps; Abner, Moussa Niakhaté, Clinton Mata, Saël Kumbedi; Tyler Morton, Tanner Tessmann; Malick Fofana, Corentin Tolisso, Ainsley Maitland-Niles; Georges Mikautadze.
Big Chance for Morton
This debut could be a turning point for Morton’s career. From fighting for opportunities at Liverpool to now being handed a starting role in Ligue 1, the English youngster has the stage set to prove himself.
Omo, this is going to hot! If he delivers against Lens, Lyon fans might just fall in love with their new midfield engine.
