Barcelona have reportedly made a firm decision regarding the future of goalkeeper Iñaki Peña, despite growing speculation about his potential exit this summer.

According to Diario Sport, the La Liga giants have ruled out the idea of terminating the 26-year-old’s contract, even though he has fallen further down the pecking order following the arrival of Joan García under new coach Hansi Flick.

Omo, this one get as e be! At first, word around Camp Nou suggested that the board was actually considering releasing Peña outright, just so he could leave on a free transfer and secure a new club quickly. But the latest update says otherwise.

As it stands, Peña is still expected to leave Barça before the window closes — but not as a free agent. Instead, the club has shifted strategy.

According to Sport:

“The Blaugrana club rules out the termination of his contract so as not to pay him this season’s salary and is negotiating an extension until 2027 to loan him for one year with a non-mandatory purchase option.”

Omo this twist sweet and bitter at the same time. Sweet for Barcelona, because they avoid paying off his deal. Bitter for Peña, because instead of full freedom, he may have to move on loan while still tied to the club.

The Spanish shot-stopper, who has long served as a backup option at Camp Nou, is said to have plenty of suitors across Europe. A loan with purchase option could allow him to showcase his talent elsewhere while still keeping the door slightly open for a future return.

For now, the message from Barça is clear — Peña will not be leaving as a free agent. The next few weeks will reveal which club steps forward to take him on loan.
