Prominent Nigerian dancer, Kafayat Shafau, popularly known as Kaffy, has shared the struggles she faces in her personal life since her divorce, sparking new conversations about love, marriage, and societal expectations.

“Men don’t want to marry me because I’m a single mother”

Speaking candidly during a recent discussion, the 45-year-old entertainer revealed that many men shy away from marrying her simply because she is a single mother of two.

Omo, this is painful. Kaffy criticized the stigma attached to divorced women in Nigeria, questioning why people assume that a woman with children is less desirable. She stressed that divorced individuals who have healed and worked on themselves may actually make better partners than unmarried people.

“Over 70% of marriages crash” – Kaffy

Kaffy pointed out that statistics show more than 70% of marriages eventually fail, adding that real love should bring peace and security, not anxiety or constant butterflies.

In her words:

“I’ve had somebody tell me because I’m a single mother, I can’t even think about dating me because I have two children.

99% of the people that criticize me about my marriage are either not married today or have left their marriages. What makes you think that a woman that has been divorced is not even the better candidate if she has worked on herself? What is the guarantee that the two single people today are not both going to be divorced tomorrow?

There are over 70% of marriages crashed. Real love brings peace, not butterflies. Real love is not supposed to make you anxious.”

Still healing after divorce

The dancer went further to admit that she is still healing from the emotional toll of her broken marriage, explaining that she spent years trying to fix things but eventually had to let go for her own peace and for the sake of her children.

She said she refuses to be labeled as “irresponsible,” stressing that she is a responsible woman who does not engage in casual relationships.

“I know how responsible I am as a woman. I don’t sleep around. I don’t do casual stuff. I heard even that after I used him to collect children… I don’t understand.”

Reactions online

The emotional revelation has since triggered mixed reactions on social media, with some users sympathizing with her struggles while others debated her take on love and marriage.
