La Liga newcomers Elche have pulled off one of the surprise transfer moves of the summer, securing a deal for Portuguese striker André Silva.
According to transfer market specialist Fabrizio Romano, Elche have reached an agreement in principle with RB Leipzig for the 29-year-old forward, who is now set to join their project at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero.
Omo, this one choke o! Nobody really saw Elche making such a high-profile addition so soon after promotion, but the club clearly wants to make a big statement in their return to Spain’s top flight.
Silva, of course, comes with plenty of experience across Europe. He previously shone at Porto before spells with AC Milan, Sevilla, Eintracht Frankfurt, and RB Leipzig. However, his 2024/25 campaign didn’t go as planned — struggling for form during stints in Germany with Leipzig and Werder Bremen.
Even so, Elche believe the Portuguese international still has plenty to offer. At 29, he’s entering a key stage of his career, and a fresh start in La Liga could be exactly what he needs to rediscover his scoring touch.
As Fabrizio Romano revealed:
“Elche reach agreement in principle to sign André Silva as new striker. Deal in place with RB Leipzig for Portuguese striker to join Elche project.”
Omo, Elche fans go dey happy with this one! Not only does Silva bring European pedigree, but he also adds much-needed firepower to a squad determined to avoid relegation battles.
Now, all that remains is the final paperwork and medical checks before the official announcement. If completed, Silva’s arrival would mark one of the standout signings of the summer for a newly-promoted La Liga side.
