There was serious tension in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday morning after a woman accused of attempting to kidnap a child was nearly beaten to death by an angry mob at the popular Ipata Market.

Eyewitnesses told SaharaReporters that the woman was caught and immediately surrounded by traders and residents who accused her of trying to abduct a little child.

What Was Found On Her

According to reports, items recovered from the suspect included four ATM cards and some documents. Although details remain sketchy, her arrest quickly triggered panic in the market, with many recalling past kidnap attempts in the area.

Omo, this one go hot — because child abduction allegations are always sensitive, and people in Ilorin didn’t take it lightly at all.

Similar Cases In The Past

This is not the first time Ilorin has witnessed such drama. Barely three months ago, a man was also accused of trying to kidnap a child in the city. He only escaped death after police officers intervened and whisked him away from the mob.

Back then, the Kwara State Police Command confirmed his arrest, revealing he was rescued from being lynched by angry residents.

No Official Police Statement Yet

As of press time, the Kwara State Police Command had not released any official statement regarding Thursday’s incident at Ipata Market. It remains unclear whether the female suspect is currently in police custody or still receiving medical care after the mob beating.

But omo, this is painful — because repeated mob justice cases in Ilorin highlight the deep fear people have over child abduction, and also the risk of innocent people being harmed if accusations turn out false.

What Nigerians Are Saying

The latest incident has sparked fresh conversations online and offline. While some residents praised the swift action of traders in protecting children, others warned that mob justice is dangerous without verified evidence.

For now, all eyes are on the Kwara State Police Command to issue an official update and clarify what really happened at Ipata Market.
