La Liga Files Official Complaint Over Mallorca Fans’ Anti-Barcelona Chants

The 2025/26 La Liga season opener between RCD Mallorca and Barcelona has sparked fresh controversy — and not because of anything that happened on the pitch.

While Barça cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win to kick-start their title defence, it was the behaviour of some home supporters that has landed Mallorca in hot water.

Offensive Chants Reported

According to Mundo Deportivo, La Liga have forwarded an official complaint to the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) after sections of the Lluís Sitjar Stand in the South End launched into a series of anti-Barcelona chants.

The report specifically notes two moments during the first half:

  • 41st minute: A group of fans, led by a supporter with a microphone, chanted in unison — “Olele, olalá, being a Barça fan is being a moron” for around 8 seconds.
  • Moments later, the same section sang for about 10 seconds: “Puta Barça, puta Barça eh”.

The coordinated nature of the chants, and the fact they were amplified by a microphone, has been highlighted as a serious breach of conduct.

La Liga Steps In

La Liga wasted no time in escalating the matter, forwarding their report to the RFEF disciplinary bodies. With Spain’s football authorities increasingly strict on fan behaviour, offensive language, and discrimination inside stadiums, Mallorca could now face punishment ranging from a fine to stricter sanctions depending on how the case is judged.

The Bigger Picture

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Spanish football has been caught up in crowd-related controversies. Just last season, La Liga had to deal with multiple reports of abusive chants across various stadiums. The governing body is now determined to clean up the image of the league, especially with global attention growing.

For Mallorca, though, the situation could get messy. Their home opener has now been overshadowed by disciplinary issues, instead of what should have been an exciting clash with the champions.

What Happens Next?

The case now lies in the hands of the RFEF’s disciplinary committee. If sanctions are handed out, they will likely be announced in the coming weeks.

For now, all eyes remain on whether Mallorca will escape with just a warning — or be hit with a heavy fine to set an example.
