Wahala dey brekete as the George Uboh Whistleblowers Network (GUWN) don carry the Federal Government, Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Ministry of Finance, and even Senator Ned Nwoko go Federal High Court, Abuja.
The bone of contention? A planned $396.6 million payout to Nwoko and his company, Linas International Limited, over the controversial Paris and London Club refunds.
GUWN argue say the deal no pure at all, calling the payout “unlawful, unjustified, and a violation of due process.”
Omo, this matter loud o!
What GUWN Wants
Inside the court papers filed August 20, 2024, the whistleblowers dey ask the judge for six big reliefs. Some of them include:
- A declaration say Ned Nwoko and Linas no deserve any further payment of $396.6 million.
- An order nullifying the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) “no objection” letter that supported the payment.
- A perpetual injunction stopping FG from releasing the money under any guise.
- An order to pay GUWN $19.83 million (5%) as whistleblower reward if the court agrees the money would have been wrongly paid out.
Omo, if dem succeed, e fit shake plenty tables.
Letters, Accusations & Counterpoints
Documents show say GUWN don dey write AGF Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) since July 2024, begging am to cancel his recommendation letter to President Bola Tinubu.
Dem remind am say Nwoko already collected $350 million in 2018 under Buhari’s government as “full and final settlement.” So coming back in 2025 to demand another $396m, according to GUWN, na “blatant and unadulterated fraud.”
But AGF Fagbemi get him own side of the gist. In his November 25, 2024 memo to Tinubu, he insist say judgments dey in favour of Nwoko/Linas, plus the NGF don gree settle with them. He even cite EFCC reports (2018–2024) wey allegedly confirm say Nwoko was the “only genuine consultant” states engaged.
Omo, two sides dey drag receipts, and na the court go finally settle am.
The Bigger Picture
This Paris and London Club refund saga don drag for years, with consultants, governors, EFCC, and even past presidents all involved. GUWN say their mission na to stop “questionable payments” and save FG billions.
As it be now, the case never even get judge assigned, but the defendants get 30 days to respond.
