Real Sociedad have been hit with a last-minute setback just hours before their crunch La Liga clash with Real Madrid.
The Basque outfit are gearing up to welcome the champions to Anoeta, in what promises to be one of their toughest fixtures of the season. With Los Blancos having won all of their league games so far, Sociedad will need to be at full strength to stand a chance.
Méndez Injury Confirmed
Unfortunately for Imanol Alguacil’s side, they will now have to cope without Brais Méndez, one of their most important midfielders.
The 27-year-old picked up a facial injury during training on Friday, forcing the club to rule him out of contention for the clash with Madrid.
In an official statement released on their website and social media, Sociedad explained:
“Brais Méndez suffered a facial contusion in Friday’s session. Following examinations and tests performed on the player, a closed reduction of a nasal fracture was performed at the Gipuzkoa Polyclinic.”
Big Blow for Sociedad
Méndez’s absence comes as a huge blow. The Spanish playmaker has been central to Sociedad’s creative spark, and his vision in midfield will be sorely missed against a Real Madrid side stacked with firepower.
La Real’s supporters will now be hoping the rest of the squad can step up in his absence and pull off what would be a statement result against the champions.
