There is growing concern after news broke that Maryam Hussaini-Abdullahi, a Nigerian woman, has been detained in Saudi Arabia over a drug-related case tied to a bag she insists does not belong to her.

According to reports, Saudi officials allegedly chained her hands and legs while questioning her about a “Ghana Must Go” sack said to contain marijuana.

Omo this is painful – because all evidence so far suggests that Maryam may have been wrongly implicated.

Husband Speaks Out

Her husband, Abdullahi Baffa, who traveled with her on the same flight, revealed that they both left Nigeria with just one bag each from Malam Aminu Kano International Airport. However, upon arriving in Jeddah on August 7, they discovered their luggage was missing.

Shockingly, Maryam was later linked to a suspicious sack, even though Saudi security reportedly noticed inconsistencies between her tag numbers and the impounded bag.

Speaking to SaharaReporters, Baffa accused Ethiopian Airlines staff and baggage handlers of being behind the mix-up.

“The Ethiopian airline confessed that baggage was added to her name. Video footage shows the suspect who committed the crime,” he alleged.

Airline, Suspects & Nigerian Gov’t Involvement

According to Baffa, suspects in Nigeria – including airline handlers – are already in the custody of security agencies. He claimed the airline has admitted wrongdoing and video evidence exists, though he has been urged not to release it publicly yet.

Omo, this one go hot – because if true, it means Maryam has been suffering in Saudi detention for something she knew nothing about.

Baffa added that the Nigerian government is now officially stepping into the case to secure justice for his wife.

Official Silence So Far

When contacted, both Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd.), NDLEA Chairman, and Abdur-Rahman Balogun, NIDCOM spokesperson, said they were not aware of Maryam’s detention as of press time.

Meanwhile, Maryam remains in custody in Saudi Arabia, sparking calls from Nigerians for urgent government intervention to prevent another innocent citizen from being punished abroad for an alleged crime tied to negligence.
