Monaco’s Defence Hit by Exits
AS Monaco’s backline has seen some big changes this summer. Wilfried Singo has officially joined Galatasaray, while Mohammed Salisu is strongly linked with a move to Crystal Palace before the transfer window closes.
With those gaps opening up, rumours quickly surfaced suggesting Monaco could try to bring back Axel Disasi (27), who left the club in 2023 for Chelsea.
Disasi Linked… But Monaco Say No
According to Foot Mercato, Monaco were considering a move for Disasi, who has struggled to cement his place at Stamford Bridge and even spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa.
But omo, here’s the twist — Get French Football News reports that Monaco have no interest in re-signing their former defender. Despite his availability and links to Bournemouth and a possible permanent return to Villa, Les Monégasques are looking elsewhere.
Eric Dier’s Arrival and Academy Focus
Monaco have already bolstered their defence with the arrival of Eric Dier, who has settled quickly and looks like a key figure in Adi Hütter’s plans. Beyond that, the club’s long-term strategy is to trust their academy pipeline rather than chase expensive returns.
Monaco CEO Thiago Scuro confirmed this approach on Friday, saying:
“We want to open space for some players from the academy. It is also Adi’s job to open the door and trust those [youth] players. We want to repeat those situations.”
This statement makes it clear that the Ligue 1 outfit are prioritising homegrown talent instead of recalling Disasi, who remains on the radar of other Premier League clubs.
What Next for Disasi?
For now, Axel Disasi’s future remains unresolved. Out of Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea plans, the French defender is expected to leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer window shuts — but a Monaco return is officially off the table.
That leaves Aston Villa and Bournemouth as his main options, while Monaco will push forward with Eric Dier and their promising academy graduates.
