The renowned Nigerian actor-filmmaker Ugezu J. Ugezu has used Instagram to pass on a warning tale to Nigerians willing to “Japa” from these shores.
Ugezu’s post recounted the tale of a Nigerian medical doctor who sought greener pastures in the United States.
The doctor very well sold his clinic back home, which was prosperous and had great plans for his future abroad, only to discover he was working as a butcher in some meat shop in the U.S. to survive.
Ugezu emphasized that this doctor now lives in secret, ashamed to meet the fellow Nigerians. He wrote:“In the name of JAPA, a practicing medical doctor in Nigeria sold his clinic and relocated to the US.

Finally, he is now in a US city. Guess what? He now works as a butcher in a meat shop, hiding from Nigerians to avoid being noticed… FOR HOW LONG? A lot of things are not really the way they appear. BE GUIDED.
”The post quickly sparked reactions online. Instagram user @gabrieljerry3644 commented, “The question is, how much was he making in Nigeria as a doctor? And how much is he making as a butcher in the U.S.?” suggesting financial gain might still justify the move.
Another user, @ikenna_donald_ekwuibe, added: “He could be earning twice what he did in Nigeria. At the end of the day, it’s all about the money.”
Meanwhile, @olanrewajuzion7 pointed out that at least the man now lives in a safer environment: “At least he can travel from state to state without fear of being kidnapped or harmed by bandits.”
However, not everyone was optimistic. @black__choco77 wrote: “This is why you remain my favorite actor. It’s a fact—if I had known, I wouldn’t have left Naija. Too much anxiety and depression abroad.”
Ugezu’s story serves as a reminder that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
