Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has set social media buzzing after he officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election, promising to serve only one term if elected.

The announcement came during a live X Spaces session on Sunday, where Obi interacted with his supporters across Nigeria and the diaspora.

But omo, this is going to hot

No Atiku-Peter Obi Joint Ticket?

In a statement released on Monday by his media aide Ibrahim Umar, Obi dismissed widespread rumours of a potential joint ticket with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. However, he hinted that coalition talks could still happen — but only if they focus on Nigeria’s pressing issues.

“If the coalition is not about stopping the killings in Benue and Zamfara, reviving the economy, making industries productive, or putting food on Nigerian tables… count me out,” Obi firmly stated.

One-Term Promise, Two-Year Stability Plan

Obi boldly promised to stabilise Nigeria within two years, if elected. He also urged citizens to join his vision of rescuing the country, emphasizing the need for homegrown leadership.

“Leaders should sit down in Nigeria and fix Nigeria,” he added.

Support for Power Rotation & Labour Party Crisis Update

He showed strong support for power rotation, stating that he practiced it in Anambra. On the internal Labour Party crisis, Obi said efforts were being made to align with the Supreme Court’s decision, especially regarding INEC’s recognition of the Nenadi Usman-led faction.

Obi Calls Out Tinubu’s Frequent Travels

Omo, this part dey drag — Obi didn’t hold back when shading President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s foreign trips, especially the alleged recent visit to St. Lucia.

“St Lucia is about the size of Ilorin. Since 2023, Tinubu hasn’t slept in any Nigerian state outside Lagos, but he’s now spending 10 days abroad?” Obi said, calling the move insensitive given the state of insecurity back home.

Peaceful Campaign Promise for 2027

Obi reassured that his 2027 campaign will be peaceful and transparent. According to him, the focus will be on doing things differently and ensuring votes truly count.

“Our votes in 2027 will count, and we will make sure they count,” he declared.

Top Priorities: Security, Education & Poverty Eradication

Obi also shared his plans for his first 100 days in office, with security, education, and poverty reduction topping the list. He vowed that no family member will touch public funds, and pledged to stop political defections entirely.

“There’ll be no jumping ship when I’m in charge,” he said.

He threw subtle jabs at current leaders, accusing them of focusing on “commissioning bus stops” while the country battles insecurity and hunger.

“People are dying in Benue and Borno, and some are busy holidaying,” Obi added.

He wrapped up by calling for integrity and sacrifice in leadership, insisting that stability is key if Nigeria ever wants to be taken seriously globally.
