Mike Ejeagha, fondly remembered for his timeless folk hit “Gwo Gwo Gwo Ngwo”, died peacefully on Friday night, June 6, 2025, at the age of 95.

But here’s the part that shocked everyone — he was buried the very next day, Saturday, June 7, in his hometown, Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, in Ezeagu LGA, Enugu State.

“It Was His Final Wish” – Son Reveals

According to his first son, Emmanuel Ejeagha, the quick burial was not accidental. Speaking to the press on Sunday, he said:

“My father made it clear before his death that he did not want to be embalmed. He sternly instructed me that once he passed on, he should be buried within 24 hours.”

Omo, this is deep.

Emmanuel added that the family honored his father’s wish after consulting extended family members, kindred, and even the Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah — and everyone agreed.

“There are a lot of consequential results if an elder said something and otherwise was done,” he said.

Funeral Ceremony Still to Come

The family announced that a proper funeral celebration will still hold at a later date, allowing fans, friends, and fellow musicians to pay tribute to a man whose music carried cultural wisdom for decades.

Mike Ejeagha was more than just a singer — he was a storyteller, a cultural archive, and a voice for tradition. His music, rich with Igbo proverbs and folk wisdom, remains one of the cornerstones of Nigerian highlife.
