This was not a good evening for the artist, who won two major prizes and suddenly experienced an abrupt mic cutoff from The Headies for an act live before television cameras and millions of viewers that stirred tumultuous conversations on the internet.

Odumodublvck took to X (formerly Twitter) to mention that in his opinion, the interference resulted from his reference to Jesus Christ. He continued that had it been the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, it would have been another story.

“I WAS TALKING ABOUT JESUS AND THEY TRIED TO SHUT ME DOWN. I AM HUNDRED PERCENT SURE THAT IF I WAS TALKING ABOUT HIS EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR BABAJIDE SANWO-OLU I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CUT OFF.”

He then cleared that he had no grievances against the organizers of the Headies, expressing his gratitude that his microphone was restored, saying: “I GENUINELY HAVE NO BAD BLOOD TOWARDS THE HEADIES, RATHER, I AM GRATEFUL THEY PUT MY MIC BACK ON TO SPREAD THE GOSPEL.”

He ended his message with a declaration of his faith:

He was a man whose untimely demise shook the nation. Best Street Music (Street-Hop Artiste) of the Year and Viewer’s Choice Award for “Egwu”, a collaboration with Chike, to the bitter sweet memory of the lasting impression Mohbad made in his lifetime, however short and traumatic it may seem.

Omowunmi was all composed yet teary-eyed as she began reminiscing, with an emotional rendition that got many in tears. She thanked everyone present using several heartfelt words and garnished her speech by stating that she would not refer to Mohbad as her “late husband,” as he lives, particularly through their little son, Liam.

“On behalf of myself, my son Liam, my husband’s immediate younger brother Adura, and the entire Imonelization family, we want to specially thank you for this award,” she said.

She stressed her words through choked emotions saying,

“Although Mohbad isn’t here with us anymore, he lives on. I don’t like to address him as my late husband because he lives forever, especially through our son Liam.

Although Liam is still too young to understand the full depth of his father’s greatness, I believe that one day he will realize how much impact his father made.

Thank you so much, Headies, for shining a light on my husband. Thank you for honoring his memory and his legacy. It means so much to me, our son, and the entire Imonelization family.”

The award witnessed lots of pomp and pageantry on April 27, 2025, at the Landmark Event Centre, Lagos, celebrating gifted talents in different categories across Nigeria, and numerous big stars were awarded for one category or the other.

With pride oozing from his presence, Odumodublvck clambered up the stage with his mother alongside him and over 11 entourage members who had contributed to making the impossible become possible for him. As he began his acceptance speech, thanking beacons that saw him through, the microphone was muted just minutes into the speech, causing the artist unseen frustration and disappointment.

But, standing against all odds, Odumodublvck refused to evacuate the stage, veering towards anger after being stopped from speaking at such an important juncture in his life. Event organizers, apparently impressed by his stance, eventually restored the microphone so that he could finish his presentation.

So, after he got his mic set back on, Odumodublvck expressed himself in a passionate manner: “Against all odds, I have pushed against so many barriers like this. A few years ago, there were so many emotions we could not express through our music.

The world tried to silence us — telling us, ‘You can’t be this,’ ‘You can’t speak like that,’ or ‘You can’t release music in this way.’

And hence, me standing here today is proof that all those beliefs are fallacies. It is only through my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, who has been with me through thick and thin, that this is possible. Tonight, God has shown that He reigns.”

It is said that the entertainer has not been officially invited to the event, probably because of which he was denied access to the gate. This situation sparked mostly all forms of reactions from netizens on social media.
