If the reports going around are anything to go by, Nigeria might be gearing up to host a Formula 1 Grand Prix, making it the first African country to do so since South Africa in 1993.

The National Sports Commission (NSC), through its chairman Shehu Dikko, has allegedly taken bold steps to make this dream a reality by appointing Opus Racing Promotions as the official rep for the bid.

Now here’s where it gets even more interesting…

According to sources, Dikko has invited some heavyweights in the F1 world — including F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali, seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton, and top track designers Tilke Engineers & Architects — to Abuja for closed-door talks with both government and private stakeholders.

“We are exploring all possibilities to bring Formula 1 to Nigeria… not just as a sport but as a force for tourism, infrastructure, youth engagement, economic growth, and national unity,” Dikko was quoted saying.

E no be small move o. This one fit change Nigeria’s sports game forever!

If successful, this bid could reportedly boost private investments, create jobs, and even push sports closer to becoming a major GDP driver in the country.

But hold up — South Africa and Rwanda are also allegedly eyeing the same F1 opportunity, so the competition is real. Na who go collect the spotlight?
