The announcement came as a shock to many Nigerians, sparking waves of mourning across the nation. Garba Shehu’s official statement read:

“INNA LILLAHI WA INNA ILAIHIR RAJI’UN.
The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin.

Shortly after, his former aide Bashir Ahmad also reposted the announcement, further confirming the heartbreaking news.
