According to viral claims making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter), user @dammiedammie35 shared that the affected students have spent over 7 years studying, only to be told to leave because the school allegedly over-admitted beyond the quota approved by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

This shocking move is said to have been directed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, after it was discovered that the faculty’s intake violated MDCN regulations.

Allegedly, the students were asked to vacate the program entirely — despite having already written countless exams, done clinicals, and invested their time, energy, and life into the journey.

In a heartbreaking video, one of the affected students spoke up, saying:

“Seven years ago, the University of Calabar admitted us into this fine institution with the hope that after a certain period, we would graduate and practice without issues. Fast forward to now — they’re telling us to leave…”

The video has since gone viral, stirring reactions and sympathy online, with many Nigerians calling for justice and accountability.

This emotional display was recorded by a fellow student in the same department, and posted on TikTok. In the video, the student is seen pouring out disbelief and heartbreak into an impromptu soulful song. In his video, he narrated the shock he felt at seeing his result with a voice laden with raw emotion.

“I was shocked when I saw my physics result,” he said: “I was shaking. All my struggles, all my readings, all my studies… I was still shocked. I was shaking, shivering-after all the tests, all the assignments, all the copying.”

The video has gone viral in a jiffy and resonates with both students and viewers who go through similar pressure and emotional traumas associated with academics. Many were seen sympathizing and encouraging the student by filling the comments section with words of comfort, humor, and solidarity. Others posted about their experiences with surprising grades and academic disappointments.

“Bro, I feel you. Physics does the most sometimes,” said one. “Bro it’s not just a song-it’s the anthem of every struggling student,” said another.

To a few others, well-meaning, it was a light-hearted take and meme-worthy moment, while still acknowledging that exams do cause real stress. Some even told him to consider pursuing his music full-time: considering the genuine emotion he put into his voice coupled by the creativity of his expression, it could probably pay off.

Discussions have begun regarding academic pressure on students in Nigerian universities and about the need for emotional support systems within these institutions.

So, even if the result was disheartening, one could find creative ways to share thoughts-and suddenly find commonality among thousands who saw the words of his song mirrored in their own struggles.
