The Federal Government has officially commenced the payment of the second tranche of the ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal workers across the country.

This wage award, introduced back in 2023, was meant as a temporary relief package to cushion the economic pressure caused by the removal of fuel subsidy. It was part of an agreement reached with organised labour to reduce the tension that followed the subsidy removal.

But wait… omo, this one don take time o! Many workers have been patiently waiting, and now the payment is reportedly coming in batches.

Government Confirms Payment Has Started

According to a statement released on Thursday by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), the payment process has indeed begun. The OAGF assured federal civil servants that the government is fully committedto clearing all the outstanding arrears.

“The Federal Government has paid the second tranche of the outstanding ₦35,000 wage award arrears to federal government workers,” the statement read.

The office also addressed rumours claiming the government had abandoned the process, stressing that those claims are false.

Clearing the Air on Payment Delays

The OAGF explained that the government will continue paying in instalments of ₦35,000 per month until all arrears are cleared.

Omo, so in short, the money go dey drop small-small until everything finish.

The first tranche of the payment was made back in February 2024, after labour unions mounted pressure on the government over delays. Now, with this second phase underway, there’s hope that workers will get all that’s due to them without more drama.
